Q.4 – Who would be the audience for your media product?

The target audience for my music magazine would be in the age range from late teens to early thirties, with the specific audience of students. I am also focusing on the metal genre in general, as many people who listen to metal also have a keen interest in love metal.
Here I have created a typical physical profile of someone who may buy my music magazine.

This would be a stereotypical view of someone interested in the love metal genre. The type of clothing that is worn, such as; band t-shirts, hoodies, blazers, hats and jewellery. All of these elements are typically dark in colour and scruffy looking.
The hobbies of someone like this would include skateboarding, BMX, playing in a band and generally anything which is known to be an extreme sport. This is because many artists within the genre do these sports themselves, which has a great influence on people who listen to them. Also when in social situations like skate parks, many people have a common taste in the clothing, music and day-to-day living. This helps to form a very close friendship with one another because few people listen to metal or even know that love metal exists.

In this stereotype, people spend their money on things like instruments, CD’s, skateboards, cigarettes, alcohol and energy drinks. Knowing this and coming under this audience, there education type would mainly be college and university, studying more in the art related subjects, rather than mathematical or science related subjects. On from their education, they would go into jobs conforming to more laborious jobs or art related jobs such as; animation, film & TV, music and art. As I come under this stereotype of market, I feel that this best describes me and the people I associate, within my social crowd. However some people may not relate to these conformities, as music is such a personal taste.

Photo shoot for my double page spread

Finalization of my contents page

Here is my final version of my contents page. I feel that it has worked very well because of the layout I had drafted. I wanted the font for my cover page to be abnormal to real life music magazines as I think that in doing this I have further separated my music magazine from others. Also the font I have used has also been used for CD covers of the metal band Lamb of God, a very well known band within the genre.

Images for my contents page

I feel that I have chosen the best images for my contents magazine, as they portray a good sense of darkness, which is how metal is represented by the public. I have used models and props to my advantage, more specifically clothing. I wanted to use darker clothing such as leather jackets and jeans to create a sense of rebellion, as well as the use of make-up to further highlight this.

Finalized front cover

Here is my finalized front cover, where I have brought together all the elements from my research and planning, which I feel worked out better overall.
